2017 Boys State Meet Wrap-Up

The 2017 Iowa state Swimming Meet was a great, competitive meet. Waukee repeated in claiming the team title.  The Warriors tallied 259 points, followed by Johnston with 191 points.  Bettendorf took third with 185 points.  This year’s meet produced 1 automatic All-American swim and 12 All-American consideration times.

Congratulations go to State Athlete of the Year, Bettendorf’s Caleb Aman.  Caleb won the 200 IM with the meet’s only automatic All-American swim.  He also took gold in the 100 Backstroke with an All-American consideration time.  Congratulations Caleb!   Waukee’s Zach Linder was the meet’s other double gold swimmer taking the 200 Free and 100 Free.  Johnston’s foursome of Alex Overton, Scott Lair, Grant Lair, and Grant Fuhr took gold in both the 200 & 400 Freestyle relays.  Waukee Coach Dan Briggs and the staff from Waukee were elected State Coaching Staff of the Year.  Congratulations Coach Briggs.

The IHSSCA would like to thanks Carol Hibbs, Director of the Marshalltown Community YMCA, Rollie Ackerman-MHS athletic director, and the MANY volunteers that helped put on an excellent state meet.
