2013 State Meet Wrap-Up

The 2013 state swim meet was a fun, exciting show!  Muscatine wrote more history for themselves, pulling off the rare three-peat.  The Muskies won their third consecutive state crown with 180 points.  Dubuque Senior was second with 147 points, and Dowling Catholic was third with 129 points.  Our state meet produced 7 automatic All-American swims and 14 All-American consideration times.

The State Athlete of the Year award went to Jonathan Fiepke of Dowling Catholic for the second consecutive year.  Jonathan won the 100 Free and was second I the 50 Free, both with automatic All-American times.  In one of the most exciting races of the day, the state record in the 200 Free Relay was broken by two teams.  Both Muscatine and Dubuque Senior were under the old mark of 1:24.58.  Senior’s foursome of Josh gill, Alex Duster, James Daughters, and Justin Yuan set the new standard at 1:23.99!   Dan Duclos and the Dubuque Senior staff were elected the State Coaching Staff of the Year.

The Iowa High School Swim Coaches Association would like to thank Carol Hibbs, Director of the Marshalltown Community YMCA, Tim Bell-MHS Athletic Director, and the MANY volunteers that helped put on an excellent state meet.
